About a month ago, ADD called to tell me all about the beautiful wood vanity and a stand-up shelf she found for her bathroom (she's in the process of renovating her master bathroom) at Home Depot and Sears. She found two great deals. Way-to-go, Jill! But now she would need to rent a truck to move the furniture from two separate stores to her home. As we discussed moving the items on her own; I asked if she thought we could use my car to pick up the furniture. Her response: "YES! Both items would fit. That would be great...thank you!" So, we scheduled a day to move the items to her home, but were met with horrible weather conditions (rain and a hurricane) plus a few scheduling conflicts. So, the move date was pushed back, and now the stores were calling her to pick up the items within the next few days, or they would sell her merchandise. So, we found a date that would work for both of us, without rain, and off we went to transport the furniture to her home.
Our first stop was Home Depot for the vanity. ADD said we could put the vanity in the back then squeeze the shelf from Sears on the side or on top. OK. Works for me. I trust her judgment...she bought the pieces. She knows the size of each item and the best way to pack the car.
As we approach the Home Depot customer service desk, a smile crosses ADD's face and she begins to mumble: "I think the receipt is in my car, at home, and I might have left my wallet in your front seat." OK. Here's the keys...please go look in my car for your wallet and DON'T lose my keys (she rolls her eyes and marches out of the store in search of her missing wallet). She returns with my keys, but no wallet or receipt.
Kudos to the customer service desk at Home Depot! They searched the database and found her vanity purchase from last month, then called to the warehouse to bring up the vanity. My eyes nearly fell out of my head when the guy rolled up a box that was about 4' x 5' and weighed approximately 500lbs. WTF?!? JILL! Did you know how BIG this item was when you purchased it? "Ummm, I guess not." JILL--SIZE MATTERS! Even match.com has it as a standard question on their application.
We did manage to get the vanity in the back of my car and now we're off to Sears to pick up the stand-up shelf. Well, at least she's consistent...the stand-UP is nearly 4'6" high and 3' wide with a glass door! No way will this get in the back of the car with the vanity. Jill, did you even look at this before buying it? This is NOT a small piece of furniture. She shakes her head and mumbles: "I don't remember it being that big." Plan B: we ask for a tape measure to measure the back seat of my car. YES! The stand will just fit in the back seat--if we don't shut the door. With both pieces packed in the car, we head to Jill's house to unload the furniture.
In 92 degree weather with 100% humidity, we managed to get both items out of my car and into her house using a garden dolly. We were drenched with sweat, but now meet the qualifications for Ms. Olympia 2011!
As I write this blog, I ponder how she will get the items to her master bathroom on the second floor--she only has a narrow, spiral staircase...
...to be continued!
